Starting at 11am, the Natick and Framingham locations will give away hundreds of FREE cupcakes to customers from the famous Cupcake City Food Truck and all other ScrubaDub tunnel locations will continue giving away free 60th anniversary chocolate to each customer while supplies last.
- Through October 7th – ScrubaDub Unlimited Members can save 20¢ per gallon on gas at participating ScrubaDub gas station locations as part of the 60th anniversary celebration.
The 60th birthday celebration marks six decades for the third-generation, family-owned car wash company, which has washed more than 100 million cars, employs over 300 people and serves 23 communities across their car washes, detailing centers, gas stations and convenience stores. The 60th milestone for the family-owned company comes at a time when private equity investment, venture capital and consolidation increasingly bring independent car washes under franchise and corporate conglomerates, but ScrubaDub has chosen a different path. As a third generation family business, ScrubaDub is continuing to invest in its employees, communities, new locations, and technology while succession planning for the future.
“Reaching 60 years in business is incredibly meaningful to our family, especially knowing that the core values and lessons our parents, ScrubaDub founders, Marshall and Elaine, built this company around still guide us today,” said Bob Paisner, CEO of ScrubaDub. “They taught us that keeping a family business strong across generations takes more than sharing a last name. You have to keep evolving, invest in your people, give back to the communities where you do business and make decisions with the long-term in mind.”
Six Decades of Family Ownership and Innovation
ScrubaDub’s story began in 1966 when Marshall and Elaine Paisner opened one of the earliest automated car washes in the Northeast and helped pioneer some of the first robotic equipment for the car wash and oil change industries. Their sons Bob and Danny joined in in 1970’s helping the business expand to 4 states with additional business models including auto-detailing centers, gas stations and c-stores. Danny’s son, Mathew Paisner, joined the organization in 2012, and two of Bob’s sons, Alex and Ian Paisner joined in 2017, bringing the third generation into the company, after all three had worked in outside industries and completed higher education to bring the business to the next level. Drawing from Marshall’s extensive entrepreneurship experience, and his research with family businesses around the world, the ScrubaDub founder authored and published the book, Sustaining The Family Business: An Insider’s Guide To Managing Across Generations. He also co-founded the Northeastern University Center for Family Business with the goal of helping guide business owners and his family with a comprehensive set of principles for sustainable family business growth.
Alongside that family continuity, ScrubaDub has continually invested in new technology. They helped develop the first roller-on-demand conveyor in 1970, worked with chemists to create their proprietary eco-friendly SuperGlo soap formula in 1987, and was the first car wash in the country to develop a customer loyalty rewards program that tagged customer vehicles with barcodes rather than punch cards. ScrubaDub’s commitment to innovating technology, earth-friendly practices, and customer-focused associates has earned the business national recognition. ScrubaDub was the first national winner of the Inc. and MCI Positive Performance Award for superior customer focus in 1994 and the Blue Chip Initiative Award for the State of Massachusetts in 1998. In 2000, Inc. Magazine and Cisco Systems named Scrubadub the Grand Prize Winner of the Cisco Growing with Technology Award beating out runner up companies Mapquest.com and Motley Fool. ScrubaDub was honored at the White House during Small Business Week in 2001 as Massachusetts Business of the year and has received several awards over the past decade for being the top car wash in Boston and Worcester MA, as well as Portland Maine and New Hampshire.
The company’s approximately 300 employees have also been central to their growth. ScrubaDub’s scholarship program has awarded more than $135,000 to employees and their children since 2019, reflecting their “Care Like Family” philosophy that has helped the business be recognized as a Best Place to Work from USA TODAY (2024, 2026) and The Boston Globe (2025). ScrubaDub’s 60-year history has also been shaped by the 23 communities it serves throughout New England. The company has built longstanding relationships with local schools, sports teams, municipalities, nonprofits including Community Servings and Cradles to Crayons. The family and employees regularly give back to the communities they serve through fundraising, volunteer initiatives and other community programs.
“Growing up in this family, we learned that our responsibility as the third generation is to respect what our grandparents and parents built without being afraid to evolve, improve and keep moving forward while always taking care of our team, customers and communities.” said Mathew Paisner, Principal – Director of Business and Real Estate Development. “
“We want to continue growing throughout New England, investing in our employees and finding better ways to serve our customers with new technology, while protecting the culture that has made ScrubaDub successful for three generations,” said Alex Paisner, Principal – Director of People and Culture for ScrubaDub. “The goal is to build a company that’s even stronger for the next generation to carry it forward another 60 years.”
