Round led by fintech-focused growth-equity firm Ten Coves Capital; BNY, a global financial services company, becomes a strategic investor

NEW YORK, Sept. 10, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Luminary, an AI-native wealth transfer and administration platform that turns static estate documents into structured, source-verified data powering workflows for financial advisors, trust companies, law firms and accounting firms, today announced it has raised $22 million in Series A funding led by Ten Coves Capital, a growth-equity firm focused on B2B software and fintech. BNY and 8VC — Luminary’s lead investor in its $9.5 million 2023 seed round — also participated, alongside previous investors Fin Capital, Focus Financial Partners, Rockefeller Capital Management’s FinTech Innovation Fund and a number of family offices. The round brings Luminary’s total funding to nearly $32 million.

A portion of Luminary's NYC based team gathered in its Bryant Park headquarters.

“Scaling wealth transfer services starts with data that can serve as a single source of truth for advisors and the families they serve. We’re proud to back Luminary as it delivers a platform that helps advisors bring a new standard of care to their clients,” said Steve Piaker, founder and managing partner of Ten Coves Capital. “Trillions of dollars will change hands in the years ahead as wealth passes from one generation to the next, and we believe Luminary is the solution that will give advisors the information and tools to deliver the proactive guidance and support services that their clients expect.”

Led by founder and CEO David Barnard, Luminary was built on the idea that wealth transfer is not a one-time event, but rather a set of ongoing services that will define the future of wealth management. The platform helps wealth, tax, and legal advisors serving high-net-worth families scale ongoing guidance on tax-efficient wealth transfer strategy, trust and entity structuring and administration to keep a family’s strategic plan aligned with its generational and charitable intent. This new capital will help Luminary continue to build on its industry-leading AI capabilities and integrations, push further into administration workflows and add to its commercial team to meet strong, growing demand across the wealth ecosystem.

“We started Luminary to democratize the kind of advice and service previously accessible only to a select few, family-office clients,” said Barnard. “The AI-era has come along at an ideal time to solve the data and collaboration challenges that have impeded the pace of innovation and limited the delivery of personalized wealth transfer planning and administration services. As access to sophisticated investment and banking products have become more ubiquitous, tax and wealth transfer are the new alpha for high-net-worth clients. We are grateful to our investors who share our vision and are excited to support our customers’ growth and strengthen their client relationships in the years to come.”

“You hear a lot about the great wealth transfer, but nobody is covering the real story: the fact that the tools built to handle it are decades behind the money. Sophisticated trust and estate strategy has historically been available to the ultra-wealthy on a one-off basis, running on spreadsheets, PDFs and institutional memory,” said Joe Lonsdale, founder and managing partner at 8VC. “Luminary is the infrastructure and data layer that gives advisors the tools for the moment families shift from building wealth to creating a legacy, however they choose to define it.”

Luminary’s platform supports client assets totaling more than $500 billion. Its customers span the high-net-worth wealth management ecosystem, including Caprock, IEQ Capital and Wealth Enhancement Group, as well as leading tax advisory practices, AM Law 100 legal practices and trust companies, who rely on Luminary to deepen client relationships, differentiate their services and scale efficiently.

Powered by human-in-the-loop AI, Luminary creates data from information trapped in static documents and connects it to tools for visualization, reporting, what-if scenario modeling, tracking the value created through tax planning and supporting ongoing trust administration.  Key elements of the platform include Luminary Insights, which surfaces planning opportunities, spots concerns and identifies missing documents; Estate 360, which turns a single document upload into a fully automated, firm-branded estate overview; reporting templates that let a firm build once and scale a standardized output across its full client base; Luminary’s deterministic tax engine, which calculates federal, state, inheritance, and asset taxes; and the estate waterfall, which visualizes legacy planning scenarios and projects outcomes.
