Immersive Theater Production A Brooklyn Dream Returns September 26 for 71st Performance

Kaves’ immersive play returns to The Brooklyn Pop as the arts destination celebrates its second anniversary following a New York Times feature.

BROOKLYN, NY, UNITED STATES, September 8, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — On Saturday, September 26, artist, musician, filmmaker and Brooklyn native Michael “Kaves” McLeer will mark the second anniversary of The Brooklyn Pop with the return of his immersive theater production, A Brooklyn Dream, for its 71st performance.

Created, written and directed by Kaves, A Brooklyn Dream unfolds inside The Brooklyn Pop, his sprawling 11,000-square-foot immersive art installation at Industry City. Rather than watching the story from a traditional theater seat, audiences move through meticulously recreated Brooklyn environments as the characters and history unfold around them.

Part play, part art installation and part living time capsule, A Brooklyn Dream draws from Kaves’ own family history and nearly five decades of growing up, creating art and making music in Brooklyn.

The production moves through generations of the borough — from postwar Brooklyn through the social clubs, neighborhood pizzerias, schoolyards, music, street culture and subway tunnels that helped shape Kaves as an artist.

This September, the production returns with new details and bonus scenes, expanding the world audiences have experienced over its first 70 performances.

“I built this place with my own two hands, but it took a lot more than my hands to get us here,” says Kaves. “It took my family, our cast and crew, the artists, and every person who walked through these doors and believed in this crazy Brooklyn dream. Seventy-one shows later, we’re still here. To me, that’s proof that hard work pays off.”

The milestone follows growing recognition for Kaves and The Brooklyn Pop, most notably a feature on the front page of The New York Times’ Metropolitan section highlighting Kaves’ journey from lifelong Brooklyn artist to the creator of an immersive world built from his memories, family history and neighborhood culture.

For Kaves, reaching the second anniversary represents more than another performance. It marks the continued evolution of a project that began as a personal love letter to Brooklyn and has grown into an ambitious combination of fine art, theater, cinema, music and storytelling.

The September 26 celebration also begins the next chapter of A Brooklyn Dream. The story is expanding beyond the walls of The Brooklyn Pop, with Kaves developing its world and characters for the screen.

On October 8, the next phase continues with a special cinema experience at Nitehawk Cinema, bringing A Brooklyn Dream from the immersive stage toward a new cinematic form.

“Brooklyn has always been the main character,” says Kaves. “This started with my story and my family, but somewhere along the way I realized people were seeing their own families in it. Their own neighborhoods. Their own dreams. That’s why I want to keep telling it.”

Michael “Kaves” McLeer is a Brooklyn-born multidisciplinary artist, musician, filmmaker, director and storyteller whose career spans graffiti, fine art, music, tattooing, filmmaking and immersive installation. A founding member of Lordz of Brooklyn, Kaves has spent decades documenting and interpreting the culture of his hometown through multiple creative mediums.
