BOONE, N.C., Sept. 2, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — The Samaritan’s Purse 767 cargo plane landed in Kathmandu, Nepal, this morning, carrying tons of desperately needed relief items. These supplies are being quickly offloaded to get them into the hands of those left devastated after a monstrous glacial landslide sent a wall of water, mud, and debris down that country’s river valley, killing hundreds of residents with thousands more missing.

In the first hours after the catastrophe, the organization reached out to trusted partners on the ground to get real-time assessments and to provide urgently needed support to begin helping survivors. Less than 48 hours later, Samaritan’s Purse sent a team of disaster response specialists to Nepal and began loading its plane with over 40 tons of supplies, including heavy duty tarp, blankets, water filters, hygiene kits, and solar lights.

“The devastation in Nepal is unimaginable,” said Samaritan’s Purse President Franklin Graham. “We’re all heartbroken to see the death toll continue to climb, and many families are still waiting for news of their missing loved ones even as they have been left with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Samaritan’s Purse previously responded to an earthquake in Nepal in 2015 and maintained an in-country office until 2018.
