Capitol Area Council Invites Cedar Park and Leander Families to Discover Scouting at Join Scouting Nights

Local events Sept. 15–17 give families an opportunity to meet Scout leaders, ask questions and learn how to get involved.

AUSTIN, TX, UNITED STATES, August 25, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Scouting America’s Capitol Area Council is inviting families across the Cedar Park and Leander areas to discover new adventures close to home during Join Scouting Nights, September 15–17, 2026, at participating local schools.

Join Scouting Nights give parents and children an opportunity to learn more about Scouting, meet local program leaders, ask questions and find a Scout group that fits their family. Families can attend at any time during their school’s scheduled event window.

For families with children in kindergarten through fifth grade, Cub Scouts offers opportunities to explore the outdoors, build confidence, develop teamwork and service-minded values, and discover new interests alongside their families.

We hear time and again that Scouting has built confidence, leadership skills, and lasting friendships, and we are proud to continue offering these opportunities to our local communities.”

Throughout the year, Cub Scouts participate in age-appropriate activities that can range from building and engineering Pinewood Derby cars and introductory robotics to outdoor adventures, summer camp and group trips. Capitol Area Council Scouts have also had opportunities to participate in experiences such as overnight trips to NASA and the USS Lexington aircraft carrier.

While the activities are designed to be fun, they also give children opportunities to try something new, work with others and build confidence along the way.
Scouting is designed to grow with children throughout elementary school. Kindergarteners begin as Lions, followed by Tigers in first grade, Wolves in second grade and Bears in third grade. Fourth- and fifth-graders participate as Webelos before transitioning to the next level of Scouting. Children can join at any point and participate alongside others in their age group.

For parents wondering how Scouting fits into an already busy family schedule, most Cub Scout Packs meet approximately three times per month, although schedules vary. Families are also not limited to the pack associated with their child’s school and can choose a nearby pack whose schedule works best for them. Parents are encouraged to participate, but there is no required number of volunteer hours.

Join Scouting Nights are designed to make exploring the program simple. Families can find their school, view the date and time of their local event, and attend to learn more before deciding whether Scouting is right for them.
